Britney Spears’ estranged father, Jamie Spears, filed a petition Tuesday to end the conservatorship that has controlled her life for the past 13-plus years, Page Six can confirm.
Jamie, 69, chalked his sudden change of heart up to “recent events related to this conservatorship,” seemingly referencing court hearings earlier this summer in which Britney, 39, spoke out against her legal situation.
Jamie indicated that his daughter’s “circumstances have changed to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist.
“Ms. Spears has told this court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship,” the petition continued, conceding that Britney “wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator or court proceeding.”
The termination would need to be approved by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny, who presides over the case.
In a statement to Page Six, Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, called Jamie’s filing “a massive legal victory” and “vindication” for the star.
“Having exposed his misconduct and improper plan to hold his daughter hostage by trying to extract a multimillion-dollar settlement, Mr. Spears has now effectively surrendered. There is no settlement,” Rosengart said Tuesday, referencing an alleged $2 million payout that Jamie had previously requested to step down as conservator.
“To the extent Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath, he is incorrect, and our investigation into financial mismanagement and other issues will continue,” Rosengart added.

People are making assumptions that the father was in it for the money. However, if he really was bad at his job, she should be more broke than she is.
Nobody else in the world is going to have her best interests in mind.
The scant amount of attention I’ve given Britany, tells me that yes, she still needs some kind of Conservator, just not her father or anyone connected with him.
She’s still ‘not right’. A near 40 year old woman turning Cartwheels at the park, posting numerous topless selfies and gabbing away uninhibited, like some preteen.
The new Conservator should not be her current boyfriend.
He has just sat back and watched her make a fool of herself, week after week. He seems to provide no good influence or guidance.

Mr. Spears’ behavior probably runs well afoul of CA State Laws pertaining to abuse of a Conserved Person and violations of the fiduciary duties of an Estate Conservator.
Conservators in CA get paid, but it has to be by prior arrangement, you can’t just do it apparently free of compensation for years then crop up at the end and demand a wad of supposed back pay.
Hell, in CA, if your Conserved party has a plumbing problem, family cannot step in and fix it for just the cost of materials, the Conservator must hire a third party, and hit up the Conservatee’s bank account for the full Monty.
The State is abusive in its own way.
