The great floods were the results of glaciers melting. Both in Northern Europe/Asia and in Northern North American. Large ice dams gave way and massive amounts of water flowed south towards the Mediterranean Sea of the old world and the Missouri Breaks of the New World. Interior Egypt would not have been innundated. Too far away. Just the coastline.
No doubt there was massive flooding when the glaciers melted.
However, most creationists believe the events of the global flood recorded in scripture led to the conditions that caused the ice age. The global flood was caused by the “fountains of the great deep being broken up”. There was cataclysmic tectonic plate movement on a scale never seen up to that point. Volcanoes in numerous places would have erupted and water which had been underground was released with huge force (leading to further shifting of tectonic plates) which was the main cause of the flood. Increased and sustained rainfall was caused by a sudden massive increase in Ocean temperatures (due to the release of lava) causing precipitation.
After the flood the gases released from so much volcanic activity and the lack of vegetation to absorb the suns rays led to a sudden drop in temperature leading to glaciation of much of the planet. We know that this glaciation and also floating islands made up of trees and dirt after the flood enabled migration of humans and also the spreading of similar plants and animals on continents which are not connected and very far apart today.
Scientist have also conceded that the water we have on the earth today was not caused by comets hitting the earth as there is not enough deuterium to support this theory. They are now admitting that there was large quantities of water stored under the continents but this is not supported by naturalistic theories of how the planet was formed through accretion and etc.
Wrong. Scripture says God opened the "fountains of the deep".
