Pittsburgh is the only major city without an interstate highway beltway around its perimeter to ease the traffic burden

They fought tooth and nail to keep you from working in the 'burbs. They wanted everyone "dahntahn". I'll give them SOME break that the topography and existing suburbs made an inner beltway difficult, but a beltway further out was always feasible.

Yes; the short-sightedness of the vaunted Democrat Mayor, Davey Lawrence. He literally turned down the funding to build the beltways and yes, fought it tooth and nail.

He screwed the Pittsburgh area for 50+ years already and probably at least another 50 to come.
