I have been there and had a fun experience with many nice people. Way nicer than the gold prospectors, had one show me his piece as we walked past.
In the few days I was there, I was shown twenty or more finds. For some reason most do NOT report their finds?

Kind of fun sifting through the dirt. A lot of people find them right on top of the ground. The best time to search is right after a big rainstorm, but you may want to wait for the ground to dry out a little.
The locals actually find the most, because they are there all the time.
