I'm noticing that I have been having super slow uploads as well as downloading of files this morning. Anyone else have this problem?
We moved in the past year from Sillycon Valley to Arkansas — changed Intarweb providers from Comcast (*spit!*) to a local company — and our web surfing speeds are like 3x what they were.
Yeah I’m sure I’d have quite a low quality webcam stream. I build websites and uploading files for a complete site can take hours.
We’re on the second fastest plan and could get 15Mbps if we wanted to pay for it. We’re lucky because the major phone box the size of a shed is close to us so we get speeds as good as downtown and we’re 20 miles out. They just had to install service for three different properties so they went ahead and ran fiber optic through the whole neighborhood. It will be years before they run that 20 miles worth though.
Thanks for the info. In that case I will go to Linux and tell Gates to kiss my non-jabbed butt.
So you’re not in Uruguay anymore? 🤣
Check the MS websites, I believe they auto push Win11 to those with Win10 in Nov or Dec21.
This is a great site to test your Internet’s speed.
You can compare days when you think it’s slow.
Not exactly sure what my point here was here. Move to AR? I dunno.
How slow? Which sites? Which ISP?
What do you expect? FR has had 4,000,000 posts. She is tired. You would be too!
not posts . . . THREADS! That’s a lot a work . . .
No offense, but must you post a vanity every time you stub your toe?
I stubbed my toe. Does anybody out there have a way to reduce the swelling?
Higher upload and download speeds seem to alleviate swelling.
Any suggestions since I'm not that computer savvy? Ask me to set up an audio/video system from the boxes to Pro video and sound settings, I'm there. Ha.
For all the providers I have had, 90% of their issues have been DNS.
If you are techy: Ever consider running your own DNS server? A cheap little raspberry pi and the pihole software and you have your own DNS server. The reason you want to do this is add blocking and mallware blocking. 95+% of the adds online are autoblocked on all devices connected through WIFI and wired. I have run one for many years and it does a great job.
If you are not techy: Alternatively just don’t use your ISPs DNS servers. Pick one physically close to you as primary and another one as your secondary providing redundancy in case one is down.

Linux Mint. Easiest transition for Windows users. Burn the installation DVD or a USB stick and pick the option to run it from DVD/USB to kick the tires a bit.
Mint is based on Ubuntu so everything (installs) for Ubuntu works on Mint as well. You want the Cinnamon Desktop. (pick that when you download)
Been exclusively Mint (except for TurboTax) for something like 10 years now. Tubotax is run in a Windows virtual machine on the same system.
I DO NOT miss Windows one iota, and my data stays my data. As a bonus, Linux is not bloated at all and runs so much faster and smoother than Windows.
PS: Linux doesnt need an antivirus so the CPU cycles in Windows used for that can be put to productive use as well. It really does run well. If you have an older system laying around where performance stinks under Windows, Linux breathes new life into it. I have some ancient laptops that run like tops.
Here’s the answer I always enjoy receiving (ha ha)
When is the last time you reinstalled your OS? (like I am going to go through that nosebleed).
Seriously — are you sure you don’t have virus or malware? May wish to check.
No offense, but do you often take issue when someone asks a simple question?
Anyone not interested in this or any topic can simply scroll on to another.
I was interested because I have noticed some slowing down on my connection today. If it was widespread, it could be CME related.
