That 70s Show is coming back with a 90s-set spinoff.
Netflix has ordered ten episodes of That 90s Show which will star Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, who played Red and Kitty Forman in the original Fox sitcom, according to a report from Variety on Friday.
Red and Kitty were the parents of lead character Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and their home was the setting for most of the show's episodes, notably the basement where Eric would hang out with his friends Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon), Jackie Burkhart (Mila Kunis), Steven Hyde (Danny Masterson), Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama).
That 90s Show will be a multi-cam sitcom like its predecessor, which followed a group of teenagers growing up in a fictitious Wisconsin town in the 1970s.
The official synopsis for the spinoff reads: 'Hello, Wisconsin! It's 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red.
'Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll never dies, it just changes clothes.'
Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner, who co-created the original show with Mark Brazill, will write and executive produce the spinoff along with their daughter Lindsay.
Gregg Mettler, who produced the original show from 2001-2006, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. That 70s Show executive producers Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner will also executive produce the spinoff along with Smith and Rupp.
That 70s Show was a big hit for Fox, running for eight seasons and airing 200 episodes. The sitcom launched its young cast members to fame and though both Topher and Ashton left after the seventh season, they came back for the series finale in May 2006.

Seems like a dumbass move.
kill him off with covid (ya, I know the dates are wrong but they will make him go away before the new show)
10 episodes might be sufficient. There’s a lot of potential. Especially if Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp were able to play in their roles with Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher being there. And that the show isn’t too PC. The show was made 22 years ago. It was a different country back then.
It’s Netflix.
So...
Nope.
I just can not see Forman’s parents as grandparents on a spin off. Just let sleeping dogs sleep.
Why can’t people come up with some original shows.
Recreating old shows never work out. Just not the same. i.e. Elaine, George and others. Seinfeld was the best comedy show I will ever acknowledge but I doubt even they could recreate a good show.
Having said that. I WISH THEY WOULD. I’m so tired of re-runs of re-runs... :-)
The 90’s is when things really started to fade in this country. The fall has been logarithmic since then.
Frasier was a spinoff from Cheers. So every once a while, spinoffs do work out. But they tend to be the exception, rather than the norm.
A remake of Seinfeld would only work if Larry David is behind it. Jerry isn’t funny without him.
I don’t think Larry David’s acting us particularly funny (Curb...), but if I imagine his lines coming from George Costanza? Hysterical!
Yup this will just be the 90’s rewritten to remove the “offensiveness” to make the 90’s acceotable to a 2020 audience. IOW, devoid of real humor.
I'm guessing Masterson won't be invited back for a cameo. I'm sure he's pretty busy these days with his rape trials and all that.
Recycle garbage.
That’s Entertainment!
I agree.
I hope they leave TAXI alone.
“Norm!”
Since I grew up in the seventies, I always thought that show was more nineties oriented.
