Ten EU countries push for nuclear power to be labelled as green energy as world faces energy crisis following years of pressure to move to eco-friendly sources

France is leading a group of ten EU countries pushing for nuclear energy to be labeled “green” as the continent tries to end its dependence on fossil fuels without wrecking the economy.

The group — which includes Poland, Hungary and Finland — argue that nuclear is “essential” to lowering energy costs and ending Europe’s reliance on foreign imports, while also cutting emissions without becoming overreliant on renewables.

But they are being opposed by another group led by Germany, which gets around 75 percent of its energy from fossil fuels and stands to benefit from the new Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia — who argue that it is unsafe.

Pointing to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster and 2011 Fukushima meltdown, the nuclear opponents — backed by some environmental campaigners — say the technology cannot be trusted and that plants produce waste which is difficult to dispose of.

The debate comes amid a global energy crisis that has seen supplies of traditional fossil fuels such as coal and gas run low — causing prices to soar while countries such as China and Lebanon suffer blackouts and rationing. …

As I keep saying, you can’t power a modern civilization with wind and solar.

Advanced NukeTech is the medium and long term way to go.

We should be getting on it instead of building more intermittently operating bat and eagle killerz.

“as the continent tries to end its dependence on fossil fuels without wrecking the economy”

LOL! That’s the whole point, morons. They’re not going to let you slither out of it.

If these idiots keep up with their constant dicking around with energy we’ll all be burning our furniture and dried cattle dung to keep warm.

The leftist globalist de-growth elites would be just fine with that.

Anyone who understands the Left has NO PROBLEM understanding why they would oppose using nuclear power as a green form of electricity (likely the greenest).

You are right. Politicians do not seem to understand the vast scale of energy production and consumption.

If you study the subject long enough you come to the realization that nuclear energy has to be used. The only other viable, non-fossil fuel is hydroelectric. But we have dammed up most of the productive sites and they aren’t making any more rivers.

Solar and wind are intermittent.

“In some cases the Greens oppose hydro power too!”

Yep, and it’s many cases. The Left had dual objectives when I was at ESU during the Cold War:

1) To collapse our economy so that socialism wouldn’t look so bad and enough people would support it.
2) To collapse our military so that the Soviets could take over if we wouldn’t vote in socialism (or communism).

Nothing has changed expect for the fact that these Leftists now run the Democrat Party and control the White House.

Poland, Hungary, and Finland appear to be lead by adults.

Wonder what they’re waiting for, they could start building their own gen-3 reactors tomorrow.

Just a side note to this insanity. The Marxoenvironmentalists call themselves “Green”.

Because they want less CO2.

CO2, which is necessary for plant life.

They aren’t “Green” they are “Brown’, the color of dying plants and bovine excrement.

Wonderful time to buy uranium stocks.

They were beaten down so much and now they are needed.

Perfect asymmetrical trade!
