Back When, we were using blanks in M-16s at ITR, a month long training that came after graduating from boot camp at Camp Pendleton. This has since been rolled into Marine Basic.

We were learning orienteering, when one guy brought a live rattle snake in, and an instructor blew its head off with a blank.
