I cannot remember the exact details but a very rich man owned the Duesenberg and it was stored for 60+ years. He had dementia and the rent was not paid for some years.

The car was put up on a “secret public auction” that only Leno and the guy who was the “buyer” for Leno were made aware of.
The family did pay the back storage fees before the auction but the auction was still held

Leno got the car for $180k which was a miniscule amount of what it was really worth.

Leno settled out of court and paid the family an undisclosed amount.

I cannot remember the exact details of what happened but it was considered a shady transaction.

Sorta like if your brother was a sherriff in charge of foresclusures and he told you and you only about a up coming foreclosure of a home and you were the only bidder that showed up.
