Turkey is the conduit to serve the other things that go with it: mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, etc.
Turkey is way over rated.
The left over white meat needs to be slathered with Miracle Whip just to make a sandwich edible.
In years past, turkeys were always a lost leader item for the grocery store. Sell a cheap frozen turkey for $.59/lb(limit 2). Just to get the person in the store to buy all the other things with it. Similar to gallons of milk being a lost leader.
A decade ago, when our quarterly cookoff came too close to Thanksgiving, we roasted a goose instead. It was to die for.
What’s a Thanksgiving without Wild Turkey 101? I mean, it just isn’t the same.
When we did a regular turkey, we would cook it breast-side down. The white meat was more juicy that way.
It doesn’t make the traditional presentation, but we always cut it up before serving.
I was always a dark meat person when it comes to poultry. Legs and thighs. And let me have the liver too!
