Paris (AFP) – British singer Sting is back at the age of 70 with a hopeful new album, though he admits he sees a lot to worry him in the world right now.
"I think we're in a very dangerous political climate at the moment where the working class have felt abandoned by what they call the elite," he told AFP on a recent trip to Paris.
"It has left them vulnerable to demagogues, to right-wing nonsense, fakes, snake oil salesmen."
For the famously mild-mannered rock star, real name Gordon Sumner, the attacks on his liberal way of life have been piling up in recent years -- especially in Britain.
"For me, Brexit is a personal tragedy. I'm sad for my country. We knew it was going to be a disaster and we have to accept this, but I'm not happy," he said.
"Young British people have been robbed of the opportunity to experience Europe. It's insane."
He is also baffled by vaccine scepticism -- putting him at odds with some other veteran rockers like Van Morrison and Eric Clapton who have opposed vaccine mandates at their concerts.
Sting puts it politely: "I don't really understand the, uh, the science of the objection.
"I had no hesitation in taking the vaccine. I'm old enough to remember kids in my street with polio who were crippled, and that disease was eradicated overnight with the vaccine," he continued.
"I would like people to come to my shows to be vaccinated. I'm not going to enforce it, but that's my desire."

I didn't realize that because of Brexit the Chunnel was refilled, the Channel was mined and World War 2 barrage balloons and anti-aircraft batteries were reactivated to prevent landings and takeoffs from Heathrow. There’s an argument made that we conservatives mess up mightily by not understanding the power of culture. Entertainment - Music, movies, television, etc, conditions so many to vote liberal. We ignore this at our own peril. We can’t ignore them. We need to respond to them, point our their errors, and put more effort into conservative/Christian culture. A thread on Gene Simmons on here over the weekend also drew a lot of eyes. And he in his ignorance is going around calling those who have refused the vaccine, “enemies”.

Yeah...this ain’t polio and the jab is not a vaccine.
You would have felt differently if they told you the vaccine was so effective you might only get polio in one leg.

The irony and contradiction in his statements, yet he’s to dumb to realize it.
In his mind, the working-class WANT to be lead around by the elites.
But with the absence of elite leaders (like himself) to guide them, he is worried they may get wrong impressions by right-wingers who will fill the void.
It shows how he has total contempt for the working class.
