Weight Loss Surgery 'Best Treatment' for Fatty Liver Disease (Pantethine, intermittent fasting, and weight loss (keto) can address it, too)
Medscape / JAMA ^ | Nov. 23, 2021 | Pam Harrison / Steven Nissen, MD et al

Weight loss surgery significantly lowers the risk of major adverse liver outcomes as well as major acute cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with biopsy-proven nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), compared with similar patients who didn't have surgery, new research shows.

"This is the first study in the medical field reporting a treatment modality that is associated with decreased risk of major adverse events in patients with biopsy-proven NASH," senior author Steven Nissen, MD.

As the authors point out, obesity is the main pathophysiologic driver of NASH and weight loss — however achieved — is currently the primary treatment for NASH.

"However, bariatric surgery is the most effective available therapy for obesity," they stress.

Shanu Kothari, MD, president of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, agrees, saying in a statement: "No treatment other than bariatric surgery has been shown to have such a significant effect in reducing the risk of severe outcomes or death in patients with NASH."

"Bariatric surgery should be considered as first-line treatment for these patients," he stressed.

And as pointed out by Aminian, there is currently no FDA-approved medication for the treatment of fatty liver.

"The striking findings of this study provide strong evidence that bariatric surgery should be considered as an effective therapeutic option for patients with advanced fatty liver and obesity," he added in the statement.

"The SPLENDOR study shows that in patients with obesity and NASH, substantial and sustained weight loss achieved with bariatric surgery can simultaneously protect the heart and decrease the risk of progression to end-stage liver disease," he emphasized.

Our extra weight really hurts us, and with between 20% to 40% having Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, it becomes imperative to curb the progression to an early death.

I don’t think surgery is the best option, but it works.

I will say that Swansons has the Pantesin brand of Pantethine for 35% off today, from what I saw…

Look at your favorite sites to see similar sales.

It’s less than $50, if you want to try it for just six months.

I had a friend in Brazil who had an issue with her metabolism. She opted for the stomach stapling or whatever they do. She came out of surgery groggy and all I saw from her was a message that she hated being sick. She had a post-op infection set in. She passed within a day of that post. Her boyfriend and entire family were crushed. Miss you, Fabiana.

If you are fat, your liver is fat.

Direct correlation in all cases of fat people.

“Pantethine resolved 56% of all formally diagnosed fatty livers in just six months:”

12% body fat or less resolves 100% of all NAFLD.

I have considered such surgery, but I have read that blacks and hispanics tend not to heal as quickly as white patients, and tend to gain weight back more quickly. So, I’m not looking into it for the time being.

Lee, my wife and I have been taking pantethine the past two months or so, and doing intermittent fasting with low Glycemic Index foods or keto.

We've lost dozens of pounds and our A1Cs are fully in the good zone. Don't do the surgery. But it's imperative you find what can help you finally reverse whatever is unhealthy in you.

We need you around and at your best, sir.

I agree, but it takes a lot of work to get there, once our bodies go crazy—largely from our own abuse.

I did some substitute teaching until the plandemic mask mandates and state mandated curriculum against my religious convictions were implemented. . . Many students I remember have become overweight if not obese. So sad.
