At around 5:00, you can see that no one (meaning No One) had anything on Glen when it came to playing the guitar. That old Strat was ridden like the pony Glen was given in True Grit. Wariner's smiles in the background say a lot.

,i>Also, Jimmy Webb wasn't writing about Vietnam. He was writing about the Spanish-American War.
If that's the case, then Glen will probably return to Galveston shortly after the war ends in 1898. Here's hoping he and his lover move to Dallas, Waco or someplace inland within the next two years, or they might not be around to experience Theodore Roosevelt's presidency.

Well, those are the facts. As told by Jimmy himself. Glen just sang and performed the song - at an astounding level. Not sure what your post adds to that.

I rediscovered Glen about 6 months ago. YouTube has great videos of his music and interviews. There are some great audio recordings of Glen online and I strongly suggest hooking up stereo equipment to listen.
Glen’s guitar solo at the end of this video is just pure Glen! This is an example of Glen’s great talent which amazes other highly acclaimed musicians.
Many people do not know that Glen’s career started with the Wrecking Crew, moved to The Beach Boys and on and on. Glen is credited with playing on about 300 top songs in the 1960’s and 1970’s. It is almost impossible to name a music act from those years that Glen somehow did not play with. From Frank Sinatra to Cher and everything in between.
I have had Wichita Lineman stuck in my head for months, walking around singing it much to my wife’s displeasure 😅.
If you love music, watch the videos, watch his interviews, watch what other musicians say about Glen, watch Alice Cooper talk about his best friend! And watch the Wrecking Crew document. You will not be disappointed!

There is a video of Glen on YouTube playing the William Tell overture at lightning speed on a 12 string! It is amazing.

Here he does it w/ an acoustic 6 string (and tells the orchestra to go faster):

Here he does it on a 12 string plugged in:

the dude was amazing I had a crush on him as a “tween”/early teen. He’s the reason I learned to play the guitar.
My dad took my BFF and me to see Glen in concert in Richmond, VA (where my grandma lived) in the early 70s. I was mesmerized.
I wanted an Ovation guitar like the one he played frequently but that was not in my budget as a part-time babysitter.

I played all through high school, college and into my 30s. Acoustic. Even played with a 12-string sometimes.
I haven’t played in years now and my fingertip callouses are long gone.
