I originally thought you were referring to Jimmie Rodgers from the 1930s.

Wouldn't you like to see THIS on today's Top 10 list?!?!

Right in the face of today's narcissistic woke culture!

So glad you posted this. I remember the refrain but was never aware of the rest of the lyrics.

That one made the Top 40, reaching #31 on the Billboard Hot Hundred. It was written by Ernie Maresca, who wrote Runaround Sue for Dion Di Mucci and Party Girl for Bernadette Carroll. He also had a hit of his own with Shout! Shout!.

Honeycomb, Bimbombay, Kisses Sweeter than Wine, etc. He suffered from a rare voice condition that ended his singing career.

I loved Jimmie Rodgers. I loved Kisses Sweeter Than Wine. He was a great singer. Didn’t he have a head injury during a robbery or something? I forget. RIP Jimmie

The singer who recorded the hits “Honeycomb,” “Kisses Sweet Than Wine” and many other popular songs during the 1950s and 60s has died

Jimmie Rodgers, singer of the 1957 hits “Honeycomb” and “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine” whose career in music and movies was disrupted by a severe head injury a decade later, has died at age 87.

Rodgers died from kidney disease on Jan. 18 in Palm Desert, California, and had also tested positive for COVID-19, publicist Alan Eichler said Saturday, citing family.

Rodgers performed for $10 a night around Nashville while stationed there with the U.S. Air Force after the Korean War. He appeared on a talent show and got an audition with Roulette Records, which signed him after hearing him perform “Honeycomb,” a song by Bob Merrill.

Cool. My parents had the 45 RPM. Haven’t heard it since the ‘60s.
