The Jimmy Rodgers referred to here had a string of hits that began in the fall of 1957 with Honeycomb, a song that made it onto the playlists of radio stations out here like KFI and KLAC, which usually didn't play rock and roll. It then became a favorite Oldie and was a fixture on KWIZ, which played mostly Oldies and was my go-to station in my high school and college years.

One good thing about YouTube is having access to music that you could never experience on local radio stations or music stores and it’s all free.

A few years ago I stumbled across a woman named Sister Rosetta Tharp. She was playing rock and roll sounding guitar music in the 1940s.
