“Thanks for your advice, doctor.”
It doesn’t take a doctor to know that this is good advice.
Perhaps you have a better idea you’d like to share with the forum?
Sure do.
Not to snarkily lecture everyone when putting up a post.
I find the pain a great motivator. I’m 20 years older than the oldest person I see at my gym. My hands and fingers hurt like hell. I have pinched nerves in my shoulders and my knees hurt bad enough to wake me up at night but I can’t imagine not lifting weights 4-5 times a week. The lifting routine gets into your system so I think the natural state of human beings is to be working not sitting down
If the post offends you, seek a safe place.
HAHA
You prodded me into purchasing deluxe “running credits”. Comes with an app where I can watch my health runner in real time.
“The lifting routine gets into your system “
Weight training is the fountain of youth.
“Some people think they need to rest more as they get older, but the opposite is actually true: cycling, strength training, yoga, hiking, and swimming are among activities that are ideal for seniors.”
Yep. And over the years I’ve buried a number of friends who did all of the above.
I get out and do things but I’m not vain enough that I want to die of a cardiac but have a good looking corpse.
“Yep if people take the time and do it a military gait walk will give you good exercise for both muscles and breathing. jmo.”
I’d advise against goose stepping unless you’re wearing the requisite hobnail boots for that special ‘click’ when your heels hit the pavement.
Yup, fitness is not a dead equal to health.
My regimen is...
5-6/week at LAFitness/PlanetFitness
HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) on elliptical
Machines
Free weights
50-70 oz water/day
Chicken breasts
Lean beef (90-96%)
A few selected vitamins
...and a daily morning prayer
Growing up, I was an all-star athlete so physical activities have always been in my God-given DNA
My aunt took up yoga in her mid -60s, and her health, which wasn’t all that bad, began improving, and she gained strength and balance. She celebrated her 98th birthday not on long ago. I’ve decided that she is a role model for all us “kids”.
[snip] Despite previous assumptions that our ancestors had short lifespans, that’s been disproven by fossils indicating it was common for people to live into their 70s, the researchers note. They found that exercise likely had notable benefits that enabled longer life. These benefits include enhanced blood flow, reduce fat storage, efficient repair of DNA processes, and release of anti-inflammatory compounds. All of these processes enabled hunter-gatherers to live for decades past their reproductive years. [/snip]
That’s right. A proper diet (not dieting or crazy diet) and cut out the processed foods! Read your labels...no hydrogenated oils, added nitrates and nitrites, or high fructose corn syrup.
Yeah. , Old bills start to come due, don’t they.
Exactly right.
There is some pain that you can't work through. After running 10K every other day for 35 years I've gotten a bad knee injury. So I immediately switched to swimming using my other three limbs. I'm up to a mile every other day.
