Hi Diana. Happy New Year. I have a question to get the Yarn Ball rolling; Do you know of anyone who has created fiber art with Human Hair? I would imagine that would be a very expensive project, unless one was able to collect a few old wigs.

And...we're off, LOL!

"Do you know of anyone who has created fiber art with Human Hair?"

Um, not personally, no. I have Angora Goat friends, and Angora Rabbit Friends, and I crochet a fair amount of dog and/or cat hair into everything *I* make, LOL!

It was 'all the rage' in Victorian Times. Gee. Wonder why it fell out of favor? *SHUDDER* It appears that it was a 'mourning' thing when a loved one died. Which was pretty often.

Don’t mess with Crafters. We have very interesting and unique ways of hiding your body, and since we’ve burned off our fingertips with glue guns, we leave no fingerprints. ;)

Thank you. I didn’t know about that.
I would bet such customized art would sell today, but the artist would need to pick just the right time to pass their Business Card without upsetting the potential customer!

Just for you, Diana .... didn't you mention you had a lot of scraps to use up? LOL!

I have finished both faux fur hats, a moss stitch wash cloth (quick knitting project), & now I'm working on a pair of arm warmers for a friend (birthday the 15th). I have a bunch of stuff to post (links I've been keeping for this thread), BUT we have a snow storm on the way & I'm trying to get some things around here straightened out .... like finding my snow shovel, getting vehicles pointed in the right direction (headed 'out'), etc. I'll be posting tomorrow while the sneux is flying :-) Thank you for the thread!

On Facebook (yes, I’m still using it) one of the groups I’m on is called “Home For Peculiar Artists Part 2”. I have no idea what part 1 was, I never looked for it. But, part 2 is a group where people post photos of stuff they’ve made. Some of it is awe-inspiring, and some of it is just odd.

Today, one of the posts was from this artist: https://www.resininbloom.com/

She had been commissioned to make several pieces incorporating locks of hair from someone who had died, along with flowers from the funeral. I don’t see those exact pieces on her website, but they were incredibly beautiful. Not tacky or ghoulish at all, they clearly were meant to be cherished by someone who loved that person.

She must be pretty good, if she has received several commisions. Good for her.

On her website, I would be interested in one of those prism paperweights with a bloom inside, but I would want something to buffer or soften the high tip of that crystal triangle, for safety’s sake.

If I had a high shelf or mantle to display them, I would not be worried about that long sharp point of glass in my living room. It splits the sunlight into separate colors.

There’s an ear worm that won’t go gently into that good night.

One of my nieces sent me some hand knitting machines this last week, in three different sizes. Since I’m still unpacking, I’m not sure when I’ll get around to trying them out.

She buys “broken” ones, greases them and sells them. She offered to send them, I offered to buy them, but we settled on shipping costs.

A new hobby! It’s a good thing there are knitting machine groups on Facebook, or I’d be lost!

YES, the weather outside IS frightful this morning!!

Temperature blankets – saw this post for those who are wanting to make one. The start of the year in our area is “interesting” ..... high of 72 yesterday, snowing to beat the band this morning!

Old T-shirts? This looks like a great idea! Video tutorials, too.

Check out the tabs on her website …. there are some good ideas!

I am posting this pattern for a couple of reasons ….. I found this 'stash basket' while looking at another HUGE basket is also a free pattern on this website. The smaller stash basket uses 'bulky/chunky' yarn. There is a super easy way to make '4' worsted/Aran yarn into bulky which would be perfect for this & I'll put the link below.

HOW TO TURN ANY YARN INTO BULKY YARN (CROCHET) - Note: I have used this method to make several items – works like a charm!

Another reason is that she's got some interesting patterns on her “free pattern” tab ….. Half Moon Washcloth, Bias Granny Temperature Blanket, Fireside Basket (this is the big one!), Harper Bucket Bag, Merci Cloths (Tunisian – might have to try it!), numerous other blankets & some clothing items.

Yeah. Looking like ‘The Angel of Death’ is probably not good for business, LOL!

Great use of scraps! Our snow is done for now - but we were -1 this morning when I got up. We average 50 inches of snow a year, and usually get 25 inches of it ALL AT ONCE! (I know, New Yorkers in Buffalo say, ‘Only 50 inches?? Hold Muh Beer!’)

Remember that really WARM Fall we had here in SW Wisconsin? Remember how I didn’t bother to mulch my Asparagus patch until December 24th? Yeah. That’s definitely done with now, LOL!

Scraps are currently being stockpiled for Lap Afghans and Prayer Shawls for hospice...but our ‘Chief’ (Beagle) WOULD benefit from some booties!
