If you spend $3M on a car, you sure as hell have no business driving it.

Unless their finances are such that a $3 million dollar loss isn't that big of a deal. I'm guessing that most collectors will self-insure but there is insurance available for exotic collector cars to cover accidents like this.

You would think something costing in the millions would be a bit more durable.

Not designed for off-road use.

“I’m gonna go out on a limb here and bet when asked how this happened the dealership was stumped.”

Or they’ll say it was like that when they got it.

“high performance car + inexperienced driver showing off = disaster...”

High performance car, low performance driver.

If he was convicted, must be more to the story?

Nope but appreciate your skepticism....

I take it he was not authorized to take the car out for a ride?

“Folks who’ve never driven true high performance cars (99%), don’t have a clue how easily the tires break traction.”

yep, even really expensive good tires.

and it gets exponentially worse as the blood alcohol level increases.

Keep your traction control on peeps

In Michigan that would be use of a vehicle without authority, not auto theft.

“Keep your traction control on peeps”

Traction control applies the rear brakes to oppose your heavy foot.

Today TCS can do a lot more than that.

in the beginning it only affected the throttle, then they linked it to he abs later.

Interestingly only my newest car has none of these systems

” then they linked it to he abs later.”

Now an integral part of ABS

“Interestingly only my newest car has none of these systems”

Which car is that?

Interestingly it is a 2001, and I specifically bought it for the lack of these things.

I did not realize

The Enzo is festooned with safety devices like traction control and stability augmentation. Chances are 99.831% that the mechanic turned off these “hero switches” and shortly after discovered why a 650-hp Ferrari needs traction control and stability augmentation.
