Now, from personal experience (over two decades working in enterprise I.T. and infosec), VERY few companies invest in infosec and far fewer do it well. Too many companies rush to implement technologies with the best of intentions, but are not willing to invest in implementing them correctly. Most I.T. infrastructure is paved with good intentions which invariably lead to Hell. Morale to the story; Don't trust technology and don't think it will solve all the world's problems - in most cases it just creates more problems.
“Starting in summer 2022, if you need to login to the IRS’s website to access the Child Tax Credit Update Portal, get your tax transcript or view a payment agreement with the agency, you will need to create an account with third-party identity verification company ID.me,”
“While we’ve netted some free, long-running credit-monitoring services out of these snafus...at this point, I wouldn’t trust the government to guard my dog, much less my face.”
Why would one trust any monitoring service. They’ve been hacked too.
I still say — no exposure is the best.
I think we agree. There is more than one aspect to access.
Your quote is for online access to documents in real-time.
My comment better still be there. Mine is send docs in U.S. mail to me.
This concept would be very dangerous for everyone. Facial recognition would be used for many more uses. Extremely dangerous concept.
There is always the option to destroy your own credit so its not worth stealing.
Can’t hurt, but with RCV-enabled voting machines, even if every voter is a legal voter, elections can still be stolen.
But, but showing an ID to vote sends the left into hysterics.
“The is part of the surveillance state.”
Perhaps. But as someone who has had their identity stolen I do see a need for identity verification. Someone tried to file a tax return on our behalf to get a refund and it did cause us a lot of grief.
But this new process they are talking about seems like a ridiculous hassle. Shirley there is a better way.
They need to come up with a chip implant or something to absolutely identify a person. Oh ... wait a minute.
There’s no justification for this
Yes, I noticed as well. Looking at downloading records, letters, personal tax data, an IRS ID online account is offered.
Everything looks good until the end when the online registration demands a State ID or passport upload while stating the photo and information will be used to store biometrics.
Nope, not having it. They can use Bank appearances with physical ID before a banking officer to get a code to register. No need for an IRS biometrics database.
Summer of 2022, it begins dodo.
That’s right! Equifax was hacked. That was a long, sordid affair including...the Chief Info Officer had a degree in music or something like that?
In any event, we have a freeze on our credit bureau accts. I hope that helps.
New cottage industry: Creating photo editing services to fool the IRS.
"Awww, was'da problem wid a liddel chip?"- Marco D'Beast
...and I am sure the government is not collecting the dna from all the covid tests...
I would just drop my pants and send my sideways smile...
Then by the stroke of a pen at midnight they can use those photos to create a national surveillance system like they have in China. If they haven’t already done so.
Or maybe show my official Social Security Card which at the bottom reads NOT TO BE USED FOR IDENTIFICATION. So F off government.
