Depends on your state. In New Mexico, private transfers of firearms required an FFL background check beginning July 1, 2019. So, one just has to keep track of any actual FFL purchases after that date as anything purchased prior to that date could conceivably be said to have been sold to a private party legally with no FFL involved. Yeah. I know some folks who have done that a lot. Just to confuse the issue for the dotgovs.
