“Chrome OS Flex can run efficiently on devices that are up to 13 years old.”
Why stop there? Run devices that are 30 years old. Let’s go!
I like the concept. Especially since I have to use a massive computer set up for my software. But I’m not giving anything to google. Google is evil.
“cloud-based”
Deal breaker. I’ll stick with Linux.
Is there a mirror product to turn a Chromebook into a computer? THAT would be worth having.
Oh boy, a google product on my devices. You’re better off loading some NSA free app.
The better to spy on you, my dear.
When this comes out I will put it on my old laptop from 2014. A 17.3” one by Lenovo. It so old some of the usb ports are rusty but usable and the the CPU fan makes noise. The specs on this will be much better than the average Chromebooks. Mine with a 256GB ssd drive and 6GB of memory. A Haswell i5 CPU.....I’ll be killing it!!!.. Hope this OS comes out soon. I’ll get a new fake Google account for it. I don’t like being in their database or anyone else’s.
“Never liked Chrome and don’t want yet more Google access to my life.”
Set up a new Google account for this. On the Internets I see many ways of doing this without submitting your phone number to Google and their databases.
Get early access to Chrome OS Flex
Try Chrome OS Flex

###### This beta might be buggy, etc,.But you can download and install it today. I will give it a try in the next few days on an old laptop.
______
______
______
Minimum device requirements follow:
Architecture: Intel or AMD x86-64-bit compatible device
RAM: 4 GB
Internal storage: 16 GB
Bootable from USB drive
BIOS: Full administrator access. You’ll need to boot from the Chrome OS Flex USB installer and make some adjustments in the BIOS if you run into issues.
Processor and graphics: Components made before 2010 might result in a poor experience.
Note: Intel GMA 500, 600, 3600, and 3650 graphics hardware do not meet Chrome OS Flex performance standards.
Google is providing a first look at the new OS today. As such, this early access is officially in the dev channel and there will be bugs. A stable version will be launched in the coming months and CloudReady customers will be able to upgrade to Chrome OS Flex at that time.

mark
I would think getting even a 120GB SSD and installing it on that (might need an external adapter for a laptop) would be best.
I tried Linux Mint. It has no proper low blue light option. So it is out. Windows 11 has two ways of shifting to red from blue. For nighttime use.
It seems the Chrome OS does have this aka Red Shift
Like Facebook?...............
LOL! Exactly!
And Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tik-Tok, et al...............
The only app I’ve downloaded was a weather app, and even that makes me suspicious.
Yep, it’s getting so that I check for Chrome, Brave, and Firefox updates every time I open a browser. :-)
Can you install it and keep your existing applications and data?
That would be huge.
