Sofía Jirau is making history in the modeling world. The 25-year-old woman from Puerto Rico is one of the newest models for Victoria's Secret — and is the first model in the company's history to have Down syndrome.

While I love stories about people with Downs excelling in life, if your dream is to be a Victoria Secret model, I view this as exploitation. This young woman was obviously not raised right.
Brand Suicide in progress.
Ridiculous
And sad
You expect a certain level of maturity and self awareness for any woman who purveys her body
Ya I am torn on this one. I am all for a woman wanting to be a woman, I think we need more of that. I just feel this is to easy to exploit and honestly question her capacities to understand how her images will be used.
They’ve been over
She is as perfect as Lauren Bacall.
How long before Victoria Secret comes out with crotchless leotards?
Wears her underwear on her head?
I view this as exploitation
~~~
You’re obviously not a feminist.
It’s not exploitation if she is free to advance herself in any way that she chooses. However (and don’t try to find hypocrisy here) if any cis-white-males find her attractive, or compliment her, or benefit personally from her choices, they are definitely exploitative.
a girl just trying to be normal but they have to point out her affliction because it doesn’t show in the pictures...
trotting her out like a prize pony or something is,
FTP!
There are varying degrees of Downs. The level of cognitive and physical dysfunction depends on when the trisomy 21 starts to divide. If it occurs early in the fetal development, then more of the persons cells have the trisomy. However, if the trisomy occurred much later in the fetal development, then the person has much less trisomy 21 and can be much more functional and closer to “normal” and can lead completely independent normal lives. That is my understanding of this model just by looking at her. I say Bravo, good for her !!
Sorry, against FR Rules I read and watched the article.
Seems she is part of a group of women that go against the image of 6 foot, 97 pound goddesses who usually model the sexy undies.
This young woman does not look very much like a “Downs Syndrome” person. She seems short but is well proportioned and toned, and she has a lovely face that barely has “the look”.
I don’t know why VS is doing this, but appealing to more kinks crossed my mind.
This is important. Individuals who have Downs Syndrome overcome huge odds merely by being born. There are some horribly bigoted individuals who will oppose this action by Victoria’s Secret based solely on their elitist belief that all cases of Downs Syndrome should be indentufied and resolved In Utero.
Latina!
What’s her IQ?
I thought they went out of business. Search tells me the Philly area is infested with VS stores. $50 for a lace wedgie you can buy for a buck on the spool at any craft shop.
The hunting grounds of Mennonites and giant trannies. You can get trampled in a VS.
Last went there a few years ago and got the usual side eye from some Mennonite chicks who thought I was a sister out of uniform.
