I am looking at this from the point of view of the little guy. Not possible for Georgia to tell Russia to mind its own business. Ukraine is trying its best, at some price.
Your position works for you so long as you are the big guy, or a long way away. The idea of human society is mutual protection and mutual benefit, mutual being the operative word.
Everything Biden has done is stupid and/or illegal. No argument there.
Back when I was a big GWB guy, saving the Middle East for Raytheon, I bought the standard GOP line about this “kook”. Thank goodness, the common sense doesn’t fall far from the tree. Brother, I’d take Ron Paul as Secretary of State in a Rand Paul administration in a heartbeat.
If we’re talking about the little guy, what about the Americans of modest means who are going feel the effects of higher gas prices related to sanctions? Why should they be forced to do with less for a corrupt nation that enriched The Biden family?
+1000
agreed 100%
Any jackass that gets us into a war with Russia and threatens my children’s future is going on a list and I have zero issues personally justifying anything that happens.
Nope. He is right. NATO should have been dissolved around 1993. Putin would not have been in power. There would be a greater peace if that had happened.
It will depend on where Ukraine airfields are located that are usable.
+++++
That’s exactly what I’m worried about. Hopefully this will get clarified soon.
Those small countries should get tough and or band together and keep their freedom instead of enjoying a false freedom created by having a bigger power get it for them.
A lot of Freepers are being stupid. They are mixing up cause and effect here. NATO should have ended 20 years ago.
It is a bad thing because if there was no NATO, there would be np Putin, and no war now.
Yes indeed.
NATO was organized to contain the Soviet Union and to make sure Germany remained divided and the US military remained in Europe. The Soviet Union does not exist, the existential to the US is gone, Germany has reunited with the enthusiastic approval of the US. Russia is a normal nation perseuing it’s interests in a normal manner. If it is rough in handling border disputes why should American care. In general why should Americans care what occurs in Europe. The end of the peculiarity dangerous Soviet regime which doctrinally was dedicated to the destruction of all other national regimes marked the end of the need for US continued presence in Europe or in NATO
Your assumption is that Russia is fundamentally different from the USSR. I argue that the names of the people at the top were different, but Stalin was very much in the mold of Peter the Great, and the goals and actions of Russia/USSR were very similar.
I don’t think we need to waltz into the middle of Ukraine, or Georgia, esp now. But, I think your philosophy of abandoning the little guys to the tender mercies of the likes of Russia, or the Chicoms, is short sighted.
If Georgia wants to be Russian, so be it. At least the dictator of Belarus seems to like his situation. If the theoretical Georgians don’t want to be Russian, let them make their case and recruit mutually beneficial allies to promote their cause.
At last a moderate intelligent response
Far to few of those here today.
I bow down to The Lord, all others get the dirty end of the stick.
