Get yourself tested!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Dad got it before PSA testing was commonly used.
And how do you propose this testing be done? What type of test do you propose?
This idea that PSA testing can be used to detect prostate cancer has to be one of the longest medical stories of disinformation to exist in the modern era of medicine. It has perpetuated for almost 20 years after being disproven.
Dr. Thomas Stamey from Stanford University School of Medicine published a paper that promoted the idea of using PSA testing re prostrate cancer in 1987. After collecting more data in the ensuing years, he refuted his original study in 2004 and said that while the PSA test did have value for some things, it had zero value in identifying prostate cancer.
Correct me if you can but I don’t believe there is a test.... outside of the good old ‘anal digital exam’ or a ‘biopsy’ and both of those are fraught with problems.
This is a fairly good link that gives a reasonable history about this....
Agreed. And quite frankly, too many news outlets and their groupies have this misconception that prostate cancer is not a deadly disease. In 2021, prostate cancer killed over 34,000 people — only about 10,000 less than breast cancer — and yet no one wears ribbons or special MLB/NFL uniforms for prostate cancer. This would not be a surprise if prostate cancer was a white man’s disease, but black men, sadly, have two times the rate of prostate cancer as white men. Pro sports need to nix the breast cancer awareness and focus on their audience. Men need to get tested because early diagnosis means survival.
