Monday morning rolled around. I waited in the hotel lobby, peering down the street. The NATO bus rolled up. Transport to work. A driver and guards front/back with 9mm submachineguns. Others on the bus has "civvies" on with a small backpack. As we arrived at work, many of them disappeared briefly, then appeared in uniform. A very interesting daily routine.
I prepared for the trip by learning as much Turkish as I could master in a couple weeks. In practice, I found lots of English speakers. Some spoke German from work in Germany. The small shop keepers spoke only Turkish. I spoke enough to buy lunch and pay my bill with Turkish Lira. Exchange rate was 8192 TL per USD that weekend. Turkish gold was priced at $300 USD per oz. I hadn't made any effort to learn Arabic before the trip. I still haven't made much progress. It's unlikely that I'll be visiting an Arabic speaking country in the future.

My sister’s business is located downtown Minneapolis. She’s been working remotely since the pandemic began. If they tell her to come back to work in person, she’ll retire.
Imagine what is going to happen to real estate values within earshot of that five-times-a-day cacophony? It has NO place in the USA. Those bastards are taking over inch-by-inch.
Not a city I’d want to call home. Of course I’ve moved many times in my life so it’s not a big deal for me. But still I wouldn’t stay there.
