—” It was odd because no Vietnam Vets spoke and the people who did speak apparently knew very little about the war.”
It has been my observation that most Veterans are working on 11 November and the draft dodgers usually have the day off with pay. Not 100% but many.
Since Ukraine went hot, there has been an influx of interlopers, some with join dates from long ago.
Too many of us were unwittingly complicit in our silence regarding those who disrespected our men who came home. It was a mistake that cannot be undone.
The past cannot be undone. This country made a terrible and grievous mistake by allowing that disrespect to take place.
However, the wrong can be recognized, and we can make sure that heinous behavior is never again visited on those who honorably served at our behest, or at least not done in the vacuum of craven silence as it had been all those years ago.
And it sure as hell won’t go unchallenged in view or earshot of me or the type of people I know.
The treatment of those men has haunted me for decades. So when we can, IMO, we should illuminate them all with the bright, warm sunshine of genuine, if too long delayed gratitude and respect.
All of them. The ones who stayed over there. And the ones who came home.
All of them.
Ain’t that the truth!
You bet, FRiend.
Says everything, doesn’t it? Coward.
Nope doesn’t say everything. Man, you’re stupid.
I don’t care what you think just like everyone you know.
If you had any self respect at all, you'd keep quiet about the Vietnam War - but we already know the answer to that. You like to pose as a conservative, but when it took risking your life for your country, you pointed to somebody else to do that for you.
Who celebrates it? Yeah, didn’t think so.
You’re gutless. But then, we’ve established that, haven’t we?
When your Freeper handle is “born in 1950”,we know that you were at least 18 during Tet. You decided to comment on the Vietnam War on an “honor the Vietnam Vet thread”, which makes you a really sick dude to open your mouth, doesn’t it?
So, who took your place when you avoided the draft? Did he make it back?
Go to hell, loser.
Been there, got the medal.
“Who celebrates it? Yeah, didn’t think so.”
Nowadays? Mostly seniors I suppose; Korean war vets and their offspring; those with an appreciation of military and American history. Sad perhaps but you did ask and July 27th is the answer. It’s a patriotic and national observance, here’s some info on it.
