Most people do not realize that a central part of the invasion strategy was that White Russia (now Belarus), the Baltic Sea countries, and Ukraine would have welcomed the German Army as liberators from Stalin's Communist dictatorship.

That was a completely plausible plan...

Until - the SS and the Einsatzgruppen started massacring the Jews and local intelligentsia and evicting the communal farmers from their land.

How much differently would it have all played out if there hadn’t been a month delay to go stomp Yugoslavia and Greece for getting all uppity? The German army was about 60 miles from Moscow when winter set in and they didn’t even have winter gear.
