"Moscow says it hopes to seize all of the southeastern city of Mariupol soon, which would make it the first large city it has captured. The Black Sea port, home to 400,000 people before the war, has been reduced to rubble by seven weeks of siege and bombardment,
with tens of thousands of people trapped inside."
There are only about 1000 Azov fighters in Mariupol, and it has taken tens of thousands of Russians weeks to take the city.
We ran into similar issues in Mosul. Only a few thousand ISIS fighters, but it took almost a year to retake the city, and that required levelling it.
Urban combat is brutal and unpleasant stuff.
The citizens of Mariupol seem to be fairly certain who has destroyed their city, and it ain’t the Russians. It’s the cute lil Nottsies.
I wonder why VOA never mentioned the 1000 Ukrainian soldiers holed up in the Ilyich factory for weeks who just gave themselves up to the Russian Army. Of course, if I wanted accurate news about Ukraine, the last place I’d go is the CIA backed VOA. 🤣
