THE SPACEX TOURISTS CAN’T LEAVE THE SPACE STATION QUITE YET, NASA SAYS
Futurism ^

Earlier this month NASA posted a schedule for Axiom Mission 1 (Ax-1), the first all-private space flight crew. The four were originally set to spend around 10 days at the ISS, according to that previous release, but yesterday plans changed. NASA said instead the crew will undock from the ISS Tuesday morning and splashdown Wednesday morning off the coast of Florida.
The crew will now be spending closer to 12 days in orbit, but they don’t seem to mind the layover.
It’s nice to daydream, but for now, space remains out of reach for everyone on Earth minus fewer than 1,000 astronauts in all of human history.

"fewer than 1,000 astronauts in history."
As if that's a small number. I remember when there weren't any astronauts in human history. Putting the first men into orbit was a big deal.

If congress hadn’t hated Reagan there would have been many times that already in space. They refused to pass the appropriate space legislation in 1986 after the Challenger incident.

My long-time neighbor (sadly they moved to NM several years ago to be closer to grand kids) did several missions on Space Lab and also did a stint on the Challenger prior to the big ‘oops’ - all as a payload specialist.
It’s not an easy duty and sometimes they don’t come back...

Not to worry, the Earth’s oligarchs will want to have servants in space. One will not need to be rich to go — one will merely need to be obsequious.

And they refused to increase the speed limit.
55mph was just too slow to stay in orbit. /S

That's about 3,000. But then thanks to SpaceX, the cost of going to space has rapidly fallen and will fall even faster in coming years.
By 10 year's time, there should be at least 20 000 who've gone to space.
To: BenLurkin
Especially a big deal for us because the first man in orbit was a Ruskie.

"fewer than 1,000 astronauts in history." Statistics show that airlines lose about 4-6 bags per 1000 passengers. Just sayin'
