It is impossible to hijack the Monthly Fiber Arts Thread. Knitting, crochet, quilting, weaving, general crafting - there is no telling where it will go, and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our Fiber Arts Ping List.

Sorry I’m Late!

Recovering from both the flu and a back issue, but I’ll most likely live. :)

PING!

There are 14 Marden's discount stores in Maine.

They have fabric departments of varying size.

Even with sales tax, it's worth the trip.

My wife is a quilter and gets most of her fabric at Marden's.

A good way to play tourist is to go from Marden's to Marden's.

They also have food, hardware, clothing, you name it.

Some items are always available, some is a one time thing from a closed business, train wreck, etc. A lot like military surplus.

“Iโ€™ll most likely live.”

Lol! There’s a lot to be said for living.

My friend and I have been involved in a project to make quilts to donate to the Children’s Hospital in Knoxville. Over the last three months I’ve donated about 20.

The quantity issue has forced me to learn to machine quilt after 35 years of only hand quilting. I’m not very good at machine quilting, but better than I thought I would be. (My sister is excellent at it.)

Oh, the memories...

My grandmother (MA) and her sister, Aunt Ruby, sat around a quilting frame, hung from the ceiling above a bed and lowered when needed, and talked about the entire town...as a kid my ears would burn listening to those two...I wish I could go back just for a few minutes again to hear Ma and Aunt Ruby one more time...

LOL! That’s the way I look at it!

I hope you’re feeling better. I haven’t had the flu in so many years I forgot what it felt like, but I have relapses of CFIDS often enough to be reminded.

Any time you post the Fiber Arts Thread is a good time, and you can’t possibly be “late.” I mean, who would notice, with our faces crammed in our projects...?

“I have several quilt tops that need doing.”

If you’re stuck in a chair it would be hard to put together the quilt sandwich — the absolute worst part of quilting.

I know people who send the top, batting, and backing separately to a machine quilter who assembles the three and bastes the quilt. It’s nice and taut. Then you can hand quilt in a hoop on your lap, or machine quilt.

I am tempted to try that, but it’s not cheap. (I am cheap - LOL!)

“.as a kid my ears would burn listening to those two”

Memories of sitting under the quilt frame while the church ladies — “The Gleaners” — had their quilting bees. Heard a lot of interesting and mysterious things which I understood when I got older.

Do they sell ammo?

Seriously, I love my old hardware store in NE Pennsylvania that had the firearms section right behind the toys and bikes section.

Asking for a friend.

I had to LOL at this. My mom could sew all day and still get a homemade apple pie in the oven before dinner was served. She was awesome!

That sounds like my kind of place! A Road Trip to Maine in the summer is on my Bucket List.

So far, I’ve only been to Maine’s airport on the way to Germany and for some reason the Army never lets you stop at the great shops along the way, LOL!
