The nanny state is relentless in their effort to control our lives. Year, after year. Remember the ridiculous alar apples scare?
Cyclomate sweetener is allowed in Europe without a problem. When President Trump gets back to his office, maybe he would be open to rehabilitating cyclamates. It actually could be used to cut down on high fructose corn syrup in foods, because it has similar sweetening power.
