The snails pose a serious health risk to humans by carrying a parasite known to cause meningitis

An invasive giant African snail that has already had to be eradicated twice in the last 50 years in Florida is back and one county is on high alert.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) confirmed there were giant African land snails found in the New Port Richey area of Pasco County on June 23, according to FDACS’ website.

A quarantine was issued on June 25 that prevents residents from moving the snail or related items, like plants and soil, in or out of the designated quarantine area. Residents who think they have spotted a giant African land snail are asked to call the FDACS hotline and avoid touching the snail without gloves on due to the meningitis risk.

Another result of Biden’s open borders policy? “Ok, listen up! Group A: Fentanyl; Group B: Cocaine; Group C: giant snails; Group D: underage girls. And remember: Don’t forget to vote!!! We’ll arrange it!!!”

Dear Florida: Pour a half cup of salt on it. Problem solved.

Quarantining over a stupid snail. Good gravy.

They are quarantining soil and plants. The snails lay eggs in the soil, and they don't want the eggs being spread outside the area already infested.

Having lived in Louisiana for awhile, my question is: are they edible? That’s one way of dealing with the problem. Some folks in LA eat nutria, a non-native invasive species. A little butter and garlic, just asking. VR/ pat

I read that part. I get it. But um kill the stupid snails and they stop laying eggs. The article should state the pesticide needed to destroy eggs .

The giant African snail is a prized delicacy in West Africa, where they’re marinated or grilled on sticks.

They are edible, if completely cooked to kill the rat lungworm and other lovely pathogens.
