The Northman had potential but it was to heavily layered in Pagan Viking rituals with a stupid ending.
I agree about The Northman. It had potential but was ultimately disappointing.

The creator of the Vikings TV series is a bud of mine. I find it perplexing that people who saw the Northman or even the Vikings series, get their conservative panties in a twist.
They’re Vikings. They invade. They murder. They pillage. They especially took slaves. They worship Norse gods. They also created the most painful torture known to mankind called BLOOD EAGLE. Were you expecting a Hallmark movie?
His movies are like all those style movies
They take a page from Valhalla Rising
Which was revolutionary
Northman was too textured
It’s overwhelming
They focus on that and leave plot and character development thin and loose
Valhalla Rising
A small fast cheap movie with Mads Mikelson who I adore
He chews scenery
Just watched the Northman. Unrelentingly dark and yeah the ending. How did the focus of the movie end with a switch to the villain? If he even was a villain.
I enjoyed Northman honestly, as it touched a lot of the old Viking stories.
Which is part of the reason most people didn’t like it imo. If you didn’t read the Eddas, you would not have any idea of what is going on.
