Moral of the story: using Patton's quotes about the post-WW2 USSR (incorrect as he was to hold Russians as uniformly devious by virtue of being Asiatic, as though that's even a thing) as though they're still applicable to modern-day Russia is a categorical error.
Patton would probably be too disgusted about the state of modern America to even care about events in Europe or Asia to begin with.

Wonder if Patton ever reflected on the fact that between 1941-1944 the Russians, at a tremendous cost to themselves, mauled and destroyed the best units of the German army and inflicted upon them devastating losses. Historians claim that the Germans had 4.5 million killed in WW II. The vast majority of those casualties were inflicted by the Russians who are said to have lost 20,000,000. If the American army had to liberate Europe from a German army that had not been decimated by the Russians, wonder how many Americans living today would have ever been born. Many of our fathers and grandfathers would have never survived the war or returned home.

I don't know if Patton would have come to a second opinion if he had lived long enough to learn about just how ferocious the fighting between the Wehrmacht and the Red Army was. I'd like to think that he would have.
I always took any criticisms of Russians by Gen. Patton to be directed at the Communists, not the people themselves suffering under their totalitarian genocidal misrule (which, unfortunately, a few senile idiots around here believe that Russia is still Communist to justify their hatred and warmongering - hint: it’s not).
