but I’m a Man not a Mouse
Braising?
What do you consume on your fasting days?
I do every time I dry my hands on the curtains and leave the lid up.
Huge agree. A lot of media overhype vitamins as some miracle cure, when in reality, unless you’re stuck on the ship in the middle of the sea, you are getting enough vitamins from your normal diet and never would need supllements to begin with.

Vegetables are the cheapest food in grocery store.
I buy lots of celery, tomatoes, onions, garlic, green peppers, and frozen veggies. Vitamins from veggies are absorbed better than from pills.
But my main point was, exercise is like 10 times more beneficial than any pills & supplements. I take no pills or supplements, and am athletic enough at age 82 to join ballet class. I am totally shocked. I never believed in my 50’s that body can be so strong in 80’s. I rarely see people over age 70 in the gym. And those few old people who show up are doing weights and nothing aerobic. Treadmill is your friend.
Yes, and vitamins from natural fruits and veggies are absorbed much better in gut than from pills.
Yes but fruit and veggies today have less minerals in them than in the past due to the ways soils are farmed today.
Thats why even if you eat them you probably are in need of some supplementation. And across the country different soils are inherently lacking in certain minerals tobegin with. For example selenium is low in the soils in Wisconsin. They find people here generally tend to be deficient in selenium.
Tell that to an acqaintance of mine who needs at least 50,000iu of Vit D3 to live...and I require about 10,000 daily to keep my D levels appropriate. People are different...and food, ie veg * fruit today depends on where and how grown.
50,000 units a day?
Yes...she has inability to process much D...she always looked sickly, too
... whzt people take vitamins and supplements for.

Even with good food, we absorb less nutrients as we age.
Does your relative exercise regularly?
I was a disaster physically at age 57. Was forced to retire. at age 58. Today at age 82 I am feeling more energy and strength than at age 42. All because I began a relentless exercise program after being forced to retire due to bad health.
Exercise may not be possible for some such as handicapped, but for most people it is the best option by far to live long healthy life sans pains.
So why I am able to do this at age 82 without any supplements?

I listen to this music while exercising:
Thanks for posting excellent information.
Under particular conditions, white fat can be converted to brown fat.
Braising?
_____
Just off the top of my head, but, IIRC, one thing that helps is lowering the ambient temperature. The body responds by burning brown fat and as stores decrease and ambient temp remains cold, body converts white fat to brown.
Also, again, IIRC, we carry most of our brown fat under the omentum, that apron of meat that flaps over our internal organs. I believe it has come to be thought of as a major part of the immune system, as well.
Been a while since I researched this topic, so I could be wrong.
My favorite bean is Lentils. It makes delicious main dish when cooked with onions, garlic, tomatoes, vegetable oil and spices. Probably good source of fiber as well.
You are fortunate.
We are all different.
What was the nature of your earlier poor health? It all factors together to answer your question.
Ex: I am a couple years younger than you. I exercise little, for a variety of reasons. I eat simply, small portions, home-grown or farm-raised food, cooked from scratch, loads of anthrocyanins, lots of meat, little sugar and lots of coffee. I also smoke.
I am not only never>>rarely ill and when I am, it is a light case. This was true when I was a child, where sibs would be terribly ill and I would have a light case of whatever it was. Was true for C19, as well. I am within 5 pounds of my HS weight. No major comorbidities, barring a smoker’s cough.
I take regular supplements, but I alternate days and fast from supplements one week out of six. I noticed evidence of a B vitamin deficiency sometime in my 60s, figured it was decreased absorbtion, added appropriate vitamins and symptoms vanished. Same for all supps I still take.
We are all different.
