Wildlife biologists say if rabbits disappear coyotes will begin hunting other animals...such as sheep, goats, cattle and the like.
Rabbits are an essential part of the environment since they are plentiful and grow quickly. You can’t just pluck an entire order of animals out of the environment without having bad effects.
The Portuguese are working on an oral vaccine that can be put in bait:
“Four institutions in Portugal are working on a different approach. Project Fight 2 aims to develop an oral vaccine for RHDV2, incorporated into bait, for the wild rabbit populations of the Iberian Peninsula.”

Not sure I believe that.
If you can't trust Authorities, who can you trust?
Well, they are from the government, and they are here to help, right?
“The disease affects both domestic and wild rabbits but poses no risk to humans, authorities say.”
Are they still safe to eat?
I don’t know, but certainly NOT them.
We haven't seen rabbits in our area for years thanks to the coyotes/coy-wolfs, hawks, owls, and osprey.
You first...
“You first...”
We eat wild rabbit here. A lot of rabbits in my area.
Turn them loose in the wild. The boas will eat them and they both will die. Problems solved.

Thanks for the link. I imagine that resistant rabbits eventually will emerge and then the population will revive naturally. Rabbits have been around for a very long time.
Definitely a prey animal. Everything eats the relatively defenseless rabbits.
We’re a little light on boas in Minnesota.
I meant for them to be caught and turned loose in the wild in Florida to poison the boas down there. They are not at a shortage and it helps both states.

The most important safety measure is to not allow “homosexuals” to get anywhere these rabbits.
