Every time that tune comes on the air I change the channel. Sucked back then and still does now.

Paper Lace also had the original version of "Billy, Don't Be A Hero." It was a smash hit in the UK but Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods covered it and had the big hit with it over here in the USA.

Getting back to "The Night Chicago Died", Paper Lace sent a copy of that song to then Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, apparently thinking it was a good promotional stunt. It did not go over very well. Paper Lace got a written response back to the effect that Paper Lace should "Jump in the Chicago River, placing your heads under water three times, surfacing only twice."

So I take it Richard Daley did not like the song either.
