Jennette McCurdy Claims Nickelodeon Offered Her $300,000 in Hush Money

Former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy has written a memoir titled "I'm Glad My Mom Died," in which she details her life as a child star, her relationship with her mother, and her experiences with Nickelodeon.

In the book, which hits bookstores August 9, McCurdy details the humiliations and mistreatment she endured while growing up in the public eye. According to the New York Times, McCurdy writes about being photographed in a bikini at a wardrobe fitting and being encouraged to drink alcohol by a person she simply refers to as the "Creator."

Although she doesn't reveal the Creator's identity, she may be referring to iCarly creator Dan Schneider, who left the network in 2018 amid rumors that he was "verbally abusive" and "difficult to work with." Some who worked with him also said they felt "uncomfortable when he frequently asked an employee from the costume department for shoulder and neck massages, or texted child actors outside of work hours," according to a Times article published in June 2021.

I guess it could have been worse.

Could have worked for Harvey Weinstein, and they could have found another way besides money to ‘Hush’ her

Poor girl. Says her mother gave her vaginal and breast exams until she was 17 and wouldn’t let her shower alone. Say a prayer for her.

Any parent that wants their kid to work in Hollywood is sick in the head.

I’m getting old, don’t know who these “stars” are anymore.

I used to watch that show with my granddaughter. It was cute and I loved Jeanette’s character. She was funny and sarcastic (okay, that was the writers), but she pulled it off well. Sounds like a horrible life behind the scenes tho. 😢

Same here.

There was a time when I’d be thumbing through a celebrity magazine and I knew who each and every star was in the magazine. Even when they used first names only. Frank was frank Sinatra. Johnny was Johnny Carson. Elizabeth was Elizabeth Taylor. Liza was Liza minelli. Lucy was Lucille ball, Etc.

Today, I’ll be browsing through a celebrity magazine in a doctors waiting room or something like that, and I’ll not know a single “celebrity” in the magazine. It doesn’t help that the magazine mostly refers to them with their first names only. And I’ll he thinking, who are these people and why are they “famous”, at least famous enough that justified putting their names and faces on the cover of magazines? Never heard of these people.
