The United States has accused Beijing of "provocative" and "irresponsible" actions after Taiwan said China rehearsed an attack on the island.
Taiwan said it responded to the Chinese drills, now in their fourth day, by deploying aircraft and ships on Sunday.
The heightened tensions follow a trip to Taiwan by a US delegation led by senior Democrat Nancy Pelosi.

Still waiting for the explanation of/for why PelosiIdiot went to one of the hottest flashpoints in the world, Taiwan.
*crickets*
They are using their phony outrage to create a new normal in that area.
“Still waiting for the explanation of/for why PelosiIdiot went to one of the hottest flashpoints in the world, Taiwan.”
It certainly raised some eyebrows.
The only way to call PRC’s bluster and aggressiveness against Taiwan, Japan, and the states surrounding the South East Asia Sea is to give Taiwan ( and Japan ) nuclear weapons. Medium and ballistic, along with sufficient mobile launchers to deploy the weapons.
Give also to these threatened nations B-52s which can launch cruise missiles.
Playing nice with the ChiComs is not working. they have to be faced down militarily, with the clear understanding, that any significant attack it mounts in the region will result in the complete annihilation of the Communist state.
There’s no other way to confound their evil ambitions.
Create a cost which they cannot bear.
Free Tibet
we have not forgotten
Simply tell China that any attack on Taiwan will be followed with the destruction of the Three Gorges Dam. They will chew on that for a long time.
good point
Like Ted Cruz, I will not cheer Pelosi often.
However, there was no reason for China to overreact the way it did.
Once the CCP forbid it, the US had no other choice but to go. The alternative would be for the US to lose all credibility in the world.
Will you now request the USN to offer real explanations for Freedom Of Navigation tours?
It is long past time of people to stop complaining because a D did something recently that an R should have done.
If the Chinese were to invade, we can't stop militarily. And, we shot our wad already in feckless sanction war with Russia and don't have the ability to engage in one with China.
If we hadn't stuck in our nose in Ukraine and tried to use it to pester Russia and made the Russians our enemy, we might have more leverage in putting pressure on China.
Just give Taiwan some surplus nukes and they can take care of themselves.
PRC wants to play hardball? Play hardball.
The Chicoms have been laughing at us since Diaper Boy took up residence in the White House.
I think it would be better to simply state that the reprisal would be the destruction of Mao ZeDong’s Tomb and all it represents.
After all, the destruction of the dam will kill millions of Chinese citizens that wouldn’t affect the CCP at all. We need to make clear that we will destroy the CCP. Our fight is not with China per se.
I would suggest getting our manufacturing base back from China before starting anything.
If you give Taiwan to China, you will also give Japan and Australia to China, too.
You are weak, Your logic will leave America without any friends in the world.
"If you give a mouse a cookie....."
You might be surprised how fast our manufacturing base will return if China invades Taiwan.
Look at how fast companies have left Russia. I just read that Russia’s economy may never recover…..and it’s only been 5 months.
Yes, I love that book, too. Read it to my kids more than once.
Great analogy!
I’d be surprised if it came back to America
I would be too. However, given the difficulty we are having to simply hire forklift operators, it seems that we have a shortage of people. We have too many people becoming millionaires by creating YouTube videos……
Still, we need to have manufacturing plants located in more friendly (i.e. democratically-elected, free-market) countries.
Nixon went to shore up China as a bulwark against the USSR. No one ever thought the two would join together, but that has been proven false.
Nixon’s idea didn’t work out very well.
The U.S. has an AWFUL track record when it comes to nation-building.
