Russia recently unveiled its new Robotic combat remote controlled “dog”. Armed with what looks like some sort of rocket.

Stated it was developed with Chinese help and technology, Russia says it will start mass producing them soon.

Robot dogs? I am skeptical about this. They already tried arming real coyotes, and it did work out at all. I don’t see how robot dogs would do any better.

Their main feature is expendability and mass-producibility. Imagine a few dozen of them ambushing your column. Suppressive fire won’t work.

New, improved, war.

In 1953 Ray Bradbury called it in Fahrenheit 451. Robot dogs that kill you by injection.

In the possibly cancelled series “War Of The Worlds”, these things ran around and rammed spikes into peoples’ skulls.

The sound effects of them moving were horrifying.

It looks like a cheap, Chinese-made GO-1 robot with an RPG-26 LAW mounted on its back. The robot is useless in rough terrain or bad weather (made for household use) and because the RPG-26 has to be manually cocked by flipping up the rear sight (no idea why the front sight is flipped up in the video, except to look scarier), it has to run around fully armed and ready to fire all the time, creating a potential danger to even friendly forces. Max payload for the GO-1 Pro version is 3kg, which the mounted RPG-26 with missile would exceed at 3.5kg, so obviously (or at least hopefully!) the weapon in the video is empty. And because of the weight limit, the addition of a fire control system or trigger-pulling mechanism would add even more weight.

You are absolutely right! It is in fact a Chinese toy-store robot dressed in black dog-combi to hide it. Anyone can buy it.

Here:

That is a large part of why Russia is losing in Ukraine. Their military budget mostly goes to someone's nephew, who just steals it.

Thank god for Russian thievery!

So much for Asimov.

First Law - A robot may not MUST injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

Second Law - A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings OTHER ROBOTS except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

Third Law - A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Video said this prototype was $16,000. Yet prototypes are always vastly more expensive than mass produced. I bet they could get the cost down to 1000 bucks or less.

I can see some real benefits for whomever uses them. They don’t get tired, get insect bites, have to eat, become Sick, get sad or afraid. I see them being used in ambush situations where they could sit immobile for days waiting for a supply column etc as you said. The only negative is their recharging needs, which is why I think they would be ideal for ambushing.

Personally I detest their development and use. You know it’s just a matter of time before some Bill Gates type nerdy dictator gets an army of these.

Maye if we let scientists run things and not typical politicians.

Ayn Rand has wrote some good novels explaining how politicians are inherently a corrupt and destructive lot.
