Louise Fletcher, the Oscar winning actress known for her portrayal of Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, has died aged 88.
Fletcher's agent said she died at her home in France.
The actress set a new standard for screen villains when she played opposite Jack Nicholson in the 1975 movie, for which she would win the Academy Award for best actress, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.
The daughter of deaf parents, the Alabama native was taught to speak by her aunt and from an early age showed an interest in acting.
She made her professional debut in 1958, but she was relatively unknown in Hollywood when she took on the role of Nurse Ratched - she was in her early 40s and had just returned to acting following an 11-year break to raise her two children.

RIP Ms Fletcher
Who doesn't think of her when dealing with some nasty RNs? And they are out there in various medical facilities.

I was an usher at a movie theater when the movie came out, her performance as Nurse Ratchet has always remained memerable to this day. You could really get into disliking the character she played.

Louise had that Ice-Nurse Look down pat.
One of the more convincing parts of her portrayal (If this was a real person), the ‘Nurse’ actually had an attractive womanly face, but she was so remote, uptight, peevish, OTC and condenscending her manner made her look ‘ugly’.
We have all known people like this in various walks of life.

What a disturbing movie. She deserved her Oscar.

I liked her, what is not to like about a nurse that is in complete control?

She was incredible as Nurse Ratched.
Another actress’s character that fans of the rare female great psycho or bitch might like is the gal in ‘Play Misty for Me’ with Eastwood.

For the younger crowd she had a recurring role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Vedek Winn.

Oh yes - she was perfect for that part. I don't think anyone else could have done it. Took the Nurse Ratched attitude to a whole new level to a whole new generation.

The nurse was a role Angela Lansbury was offered and declined.
I preferred and became most familiar with Fletcher as the religious leader on Star Trek Deep Space Nine

A film whose socially destructive effect is seen in the masses of punks, bums and degenerates who are helping the woke communist project to destroy what is left of normality. Damn to hell all who hand in the movie and what it helped fuel.

The actress from "Misty" died fairly recently. Jessica Walters. Known recently for being a great comedic actress in recent years.
