NBA only has itself to blame for sad decline into incivility
NY Post ^ | October 8, 2022 | Phil Mushnick

As the NBA scene grows more uncivil — last week, Warriors star and repetitive reprobate Draymond Green put on a vulgar public show following his assault of a teammate — commissioner Adam Silver continues to whistle past the dump.

Silver seems unwilling to firmly or even tangentially deal with what’s increasingly plaguing the NBA.

Brings to mind Silver’s mentor, the late NBA commissioner David Stern, who, during an interview with NBC’s Bob Costas, scoffed at the notion that taunting and trash-talking inspire too many on-court fights.

The next season, the NBA added anti-taunting rules to reduce the number of on-court fights.

Over the past, oh, 10 years, readers — too many to ignore — have let it be known they no longer hold an interest in the NBA, no longer even check the standings, as it has become a harbor for selfish, profane players, disruptive in-house audiences, sense-depriving, pounding piped-in “music,” and games reduced to basketball-barren 3-point barrages.

And TV-dictated late weeknight NBA Finals have become far too easy to ignore for those who once watched as conditioned. People aren’t going to lose any sleep missing the NBA Finals.

All you have to do is walk away from it by not watching games on TV or patronizing their sponsors, not buying any team merch, and not attending any of their games.

Thug ball is of interest to the criminal class, I suppose. Decent people don’t watch such stuff.

Green was arrested at MSU, if I recall correctly.

Oh this is silly. Practice fights happen ALL THE TIME. In all the sports that have even the slightest contact. The only thing that’s new about this is the ease with which the footage lands on the internet. Back in the days when reporters but not cameras were allowed in practice this happened all the time, it just wasn’t discussed. So long as nobody actually hurt each other, and knew to shake hands after it was just part of the process. There’s a famous story of Jordan decking a teammate during practice, that season wrapped up with winning the championship. Which teammate did he deck? Current Warriors coach Steve kerr. He knows how this works.

Jordan’s punch turned poor Kerr into an imbecile. Sad.

Wow, stupid take away.

Meanwhile, back in reality, it’s just part of what happens. EVERY basketball team, football team, and hockey team has a dustup during practice at some point during the year. It’s how things work. If your team doesn’t, then it’s cause they’re not putting in any effort, they don’t have their emotions in the game, and they’re probably gonna suck.

Again, this has been going on as long as these sports have existed. It’s just that some people, who don’t actually pay attention, and have axes to grind, see one little video and think this is somehow new or interesting. It is neither.

The NBA is a massively successful and growing commercial business.

It has reached worldwide support at a level that only soccer also enjoys.

Basketball is rigged and like old school wrestling. That coupled with the political activism of the players just makes the whole thing unpalatable long term. If you watch the last 2 minutes of any game you pretty much saw the entire game. But as long as it appears rigged no one wants to watch that.

Basketball was invented by a white man.
This is cultural appropriation writ large.
I’m triggered!!!!

The highest TV ratings for an NBA finals was back in 1998. That was nearly 25 years ago.

It has reached worldwide support at a level that only soccer also enjoys.

That pretty much says it all. It has become a sport for Third World peasants.

I wonder if we will see NBA teams in Europe or Asia at some point? I know the NFL has talked of having a team in London eventually, as NFL football has become popular overseas as well.

Europe is more likely than Asia. The whole purpose of playing NFL games in London is to give the NFL a reason to start its Sunday schedule early on a Sunday morning. I can’t see the NFL scheduling games in Asia that would be broadcast live in the U.S. at 2:00 AM.

I could see some kind of alliance with the Euro League in the future.

Terribly boring to watch nowadays. The Larry Birds and the Michael Jordans are all gone. Give me hockey any day over squeaky ass, whistle-laden basketball.

Let the players carry guns on the court and see what happens.
