DeSantis is not hiring anyone, public universities in Florida are controlled by a Board of Regents of each school, here is a quote directly from the UF website.
The UF Board of Trustees is the public body corporate of the university. It sets policy for the institution, and serves as the institution’s legal owner and final authority. The UF Board of Trustees holds the institution’s resources in trust and is responsible for their efficient and effective use. The UF Board of Trustees consists of six citizen members appointed by the Governor and five citizen members appointed by the Board of Governors. The Chair of the Faculty Senate and the President of the Student Body are also voting members.
This is a funny thread. It makes you wonder, is there an unwritten rule somewhere, that a college president must be liberal, otherwise the snowflake students can’t handle life???

So at best, DeSantis had only some tangential indirect impact on hiring Ben Sasse.
Given how Presidents are chosen at pubic Universities in Florida, students have little to no role in their hiring. Students come and go in a few short years, the University remains in place, students are rightfully given virtually no say in the administration of the University.
Maybe Sasse will learn that you can’t dance with the devil and not pay the price.

IMHO Sasse is wanting to put down roots in Florida. They want to install him as the next governor of Florida.
