I still say Man O’ War was the bomb. Secretariat was amazing, but Man o’ War wore VERY a heavy shoes vs. Secretariat light weight and Man O War had a thirty pound additional weight added to him when raced.
I personally believe had they been raced with even weights and modern showing, Man o’ War would have blown by Secretariat.
Oh don’t get me going. I burned out on the MOW-Sec wars long ago.
Sec was great, but not the greatest. He even spit out the bit too much. The “abscess” is a bogus story that never appeared in Racing papers for at least 6 mos (his “mysterious loss in the Wood” all the way in August). The excuses are “lame”.
Secretariat holds all 3 all time records in the triple crown races, imo there is no question that Secretariat is the greatest horse of all time and it’s not close
