Now is the time to do a little planning for gift-giving for the Gardeners in our lives. Two of my three BFFs are Gardeners and we're still working on the last one, to get her to grow food and flowers, too! The following are hand-or-home-made ideas, things you can purchase, or duplicate yourself. Gifts of jam, jellies, pickles, pies, breads, herb-infused butters, oils or vinegar are also easy to pull together. And, of course, BOOKS! What gardener doesn't want an inspirational or educational gardening book to read in the off-season? All ideas welcome; gifts you've given, gifts you'd like to give...or get!

Tomato seedlings survived a couple of days in the garage during nasty Hurricane Ian. Hurricane Nicole much less severe, blooming tomatoes are looking fine!

Salad table: lettuce, scallions, radish, carrot seedlings loved the periodic soaking rains from Nicole, along with cooler weather. Easy removal of leaf litter from the salad table.

Getting ready to plant a couple more tomatoes into Earthbox today. Turnip seeds into planter bags. Re-potting eight tomato seedlings.

Happy Gardening!

When I was a teenager - the Gifts I used to give Grandmas, Great Aunts, etc. was a handwritten ‘coupon’ for a free days use of me for manual labor.

It often ended up as a Spring yard/garden work.

Wonder if any kids think of that nowadays....?

Hello to all!

We actually got some (significant) rain here for the first time in almost a year. Praying every day for more and need to get my rain barrel under the spout so it fills up. I think my brother has filled up nine so I need to catch up. In a dry area like mine, any water is like manna from heaven!

Picking the last of my roses. This is "Perfume Delight," my best performing rose, it is over 30 years old:

Still getting a few hibiscus:

And, the usual animal drama, they both want to sit on my lap - and yes, those are my toes.

On my way to the nursery now, 10% off of everything today.

Happy Gardening!

The past 10 days have been pure, unadulterated suckage at Augie’s house. I climbed out of bed the morning of 11/5 feeling like I’d been run over by a cement mixer. Felt fine when I went to bed Friday night. It was literally like someone had flipped my death warmed over switch. High fever, glass throat, knife in the eye, want to throw up, hacking and gagging, bull-stomped misery. Tested C+ Monday morning. Mrs. Augie tested C+ Wednesday morning. Thursday I felt like I might be starting to mend but that was just a cruel joke. Friday I was back in the wringer with Saturday and Sunday worse yet.

Having zero gumption to drag my bones to the greenhouse has resulted in most of my seedlings croaking from too much heat and not enough water. The green salad in the planter boxes on the floor is doing well, but the stuff I had in flats is pretty much toast.

Think I’ll slither my way back to the couch now and try to get a nap in.
