Franz Werfel, an Austrian Jew who spent time at Lourdes while fleeing the Nazis, wrote the book, The Song of Bernadette, after making a vow that if he should reach America safely, he would tell the story of Bernadette to the world.

He supposedly converted before he died.

Franz Werfel was married to a woman named Alma who also was married to Gropius and to Mahler. In addition she had many partners who were even listed in her obituary.
