It’s utter BS. The ride is great and the movie is not racist.

The problem is that it shows black people in post civil war era times AS THEY WERE - not as the narrative wants and, like Clarence Thomas and other conservative blacks this must be buried.

Never mind the fact that the ride has NO black people on it and only constitutes the animal characters who are not stereotypical black caricatures as commonly used then.

Well, Disney feels the need to be politically correct.

Political correctness trumps every other consideration.

That’s where we are at.

They have to take away this attraction due to it being tangentially connected to a movie which is not actually racist, but it’s OK to put out blatantly gay movies? Go figure.

Not surprised it’s happening, just surprised it didn’t happen sooner. I knew along time ago this ride’s days were numbered and it could only fly under the radar for so long. It was a lovely ride, too; too bad future generations won’t be able to enjoy it.

I’m pretty sure Cinderella’s castle could be found to be historically problematic too. If one wanted to, Cinderella and a lot of the other Disney characters could be found to be culturally incorrect and racist in one form or another.

All Disney parks should be closed, and most Disney movies from the part should be scrapped.

Song of the South was loosely based on the work of Joel Chandler Harris, who wrote Tales of Uncle Remus for children. Mark Twain had Harris as a dinner guest at his home in Connecticut and invited some of the neighbors' children to meet the author of Uncle Remus

According to Twain, when introduce to Harris, the children cried out in disappointment, "He's white!"

As a former Florida resident, I can testify that Splash Mountain was my daughter’s favorite ride at Walt Disney World. When we visited the park, we made it a point to go on Splash Mountain first, because there were always long lines waiting for it.

I don’t recall any scenes from “The Song of the South” being shown at that ride. What I remember are characters from the Uncle Remus stories, like Brer Rabbit, who also happened to appear in the movie.

It seems to me that Disney is having a big guilt trip over creating “The Song of the South,” and wants all of us to forget it ever existed. It hasn’t been shown in cinemas since I was a kid, to start with. A few years ago, that inspired me to find the film online, and download it for my video collection. That way I will never forget the movie.

Disney should just say Splash Mountain was inspired by the movie “Splash”, and there was actually no connection to “The Song of the South”. Yep, I think that would fly.

So Iger has always felt, as ceo, this ride was inappropriate.

He and Disney still vote and donate to Democrats though, the party of slavery.

When is Iger going to feel supporting and bankrolling the party of slavery is inapproprite?

Good grief. IIRC, Song of the South's stories were loosely based on traditional African folk tales passed down from generation to generation.

Oh well, so much for diversity. Dumping the Reedy Creek District cannot come soon enough.
