When Yeltsin was a kid growing up in Russia he grew up in a area littered with the detritus of WW2. He and his friends would dig up mines to extract the explosive materials to fashion homemade bombs to scare the ''witches''(old, scolding grandmothers.) It was in doing so something went wrong one day and Yeltsin ended up having most of the fingers on his left hand blown off.
