I wonder if it has dawned on any of these liberals that if the Supreme Court really wants to return gay marriage to the states like it did with abortion, the court can strike down this law just as easy as they could strike down their own Oberfell precedent?

No that thought is not occurred to the Liberals.

Their view is that if there is a federal law explicitly allowing same-sex marriage, that nobody would challenge such a law in court.

Unlike the abortion issue, opposition to same-sex marriage seems to have dissolved if you can believe public opinion polls on the subject. Which in turn would seem to make it unlikely that anyone would challenge a federal law allowing same-sex marriage.

And the Supreme Court would never get involved unless someone did file a lawsuit against this pending law.
