‘The Scream’. Edvard would be inspired...
I drive for a living. When it’s this cold, they can put NOTHING on the streets that melts the ice. The tires of vehicles tend to ‘polish’ the ice on the streets making them quite treacherous. The city puts pea stone and sand on the streets to afford SOME traction. As it will be getting warmer this week, they’ll switch to ‘pickle’, a mix of salt and sand.
This was a good week to take as vacation time, to avoid driving on nasty streets. Unfortunately, I’m back to work on Boxing Day (December 26), not that I ever go to Boxing Day sales. (When I was a kid, Boxing Day in Canaduh, was like your ‘Black Friday’, in regards to sales.)
I didn’t know you went shopping on Boxing Day. I thought it was just giving gifts, having wassail...
Perhaps 100s of years ago. In my lifetime, it was a day for visiting relatives and friends. I recall that often, while visiting relatives who lived in the country, outside of d’Ottawa, we would often go to the ‘levee’ at the township hall, on Boxing Day. We’d quaff a few pints of ale, to shake the cobwebs out, and visit with neighbours.
From at least the 1970s (likely much earlier), stores would have ‘Boxing Day’ sales, getting rid or old stock. I can remember going to a ‘Best Buy’ type store at 5:00AM, so as to get in early and ‘score’ a deal on a DVD player. IT WAS FREAKIN’ COLD! Now, most everything is done over the internet! That said, technology doesn’t bear any interest to me, anymore.
Well, I guess that’s a good day to have clearance sales.
It’s probably one of the last days of all that I’d want to leave the house - especially up there :-)
I have 5 feet of the material for the construction on my front yard right now here in Alaska. Plenty for everybody, even people who want to construct the gender neutral type. Those do cost a bit extra however.
Without special appendages, ‘gender neutral’ should be cheaper!
This appears on craigslist every time it snows.
Accessories are not including in any of the models!
I guess your snowmen are fat Ken dolls...

We used to do the same thing with hail and pond ice only then it was called an ice box.

I was about to post something similar for a snow Florida man.
You and my Grandma.
Don’t recall trick or treating in the snow...but I guess we wouldn’t have minded it!
“”He’s a treasure; and underneath that avuncular goofiness, he’s sharp as a tack.””
It shows!!!!! Why can’t we have more like him? With all the disappointments we have in politicians we THOUGHT were going to do a good job, don’t believe he’d let us down. LA is lucky to have him and we’re lucky to have him in DC...
Had my eyes examined today by a new doctor. He was a young guy from RI - leaving Thursday for Christmas with his family in RI. I told him I’d heard a lot about the weather they expect up there over the holiday.
I kept my mouth closed about “politicians” from RI but we had a great conversation about he and his family having a hunting cabin in Watkins Glen and they spent Thanksgiving there. That kept me from saying anything controversial about certain congressional members from RI!!!

Guess we’re all a bunch of old duffers here today. I remember my father and hired men cutting the ice on the ice pond, hauling blocks of ice to the barn with the work horses and storing it and covering it with sawdust. I understood it was used for the milk vats to keep the milk cool in the warm weather.
I followed my brother one time onto the ice pond when he went skating - didn’t follow tracks in the snow but went my own way and fell through the ice. He managed to pull me out, got me on a sled and raced me up to the house - don’t even know how he got his skates off so fast. I was probably 7-8 - wonder if I ever thanked him - LOL! Probably scared him to pieces!
